August 31 - Hoi An: History, Beaches and FOOD!
From Saigon, Christi took a 24 hour train north to the seaside town of Hoi An which is just south of Danang (where there was once a huge US base). Here, she toured some ancient ruins, discovered some delicious treats, and soaked up the sun on a gorgeous beach.

A temple ruin from the Cham in the town of My Son. Not much is left after this site found itself amidst a bloody war in the '60s.

Nice, but Angkor Wat and Bagan have spoiled me.

Icabod Buddha.

The Cham Towers. The middle one is riddled with giant bullet holes.

The Japanese Covered Bridge in old town, Hoi An.

There are many art galleries about town - reminds me of Provincetown in Cape Cod.

Dessert drinks for 30 cents! Ooey, gooey - I got the slimy corn with coconut.

A bowl shaped boat - this looks like so much fun! I want to bop around the water in one.

My home for the day - not too shabby!

An Bang Beach - I could get used to this.

Cao lau noodles - a local specialty made with special well water - yum!

A festive dinner with some travelers - like Korean BBQ meets Vietnamese spring rolls. Fill your rice paper with lettuce and herbs, pickled veggies, grilled pork, a spring roll, and a small banh xeo. Seriously amazing. So much food!
