May 10: Onward to Mt. Rainier

Continuing our road trip, we drive up to Mt. Rainier, passing Mt. Hood in Oregon along the way. The park had been closed for six months due to flooding, but it opened on May 5th. And that's when we went in.

The drive up through eastern oregon. View of Mt. Hood from the east.

Here's a photo of Mt. Rainier from Seattle.

Going up the mountain... heading to Camp Muir. Circled in red is a group of climbers also heading up.

Video of hiking up the Muir Snowfield... and the encounter with "The Ghosts of Rainier". Then us at Camp Muir on a beautiful day with Mt. Adams in the background.

We are at Camp Muir with Mt. Adams in the background. Mt. Hood and also Mount Saint Helens can also be seen... but not sure if they showed up on the photo.

We decided to go up the Gibraltar Ledges route out of Camp Muir. Heading up, the weather deteriorated and so we had to come back down. Massive high winds and whiteout conditions -- safety first! But the route is actually beautiful -- a "stellar route."

Christi posing the "Y".

I'm posing the "I".

We headed back down since the wind was getting pretty bad. Another time...
