June 28: Memorial in Kanchanaburi and desserts.
After The Elephant World, Christi heads to Kanchanaburi, known for the Death Railway. During WWII, under Japanese control, Allied POWs were forced to build a bridge over the River Kwai as part of the infamous Burma Railway. A lot of POWs died from starvation and malaria while building this bridge.
The railway bridge over the River Kwai.
The railway is now only used for short rides over the river. Here's the train.
On a lighter note, here's one of Kanchanaburi's many dessert carts. Pick and choose what you want... beans? Oh, yeah, beans as part of a dessert!
More choices.
