October 13: White Desert in Egypt's Sahara Desert

After being sight-see-ed out, we headed west into the middle of Egypt to visit the oases and the White Desert.

We took a bus out into the White Desert and got dropped out ...well, out here ...in no-man's land. Desert. Nothing. Nada. We wanted to see the White Desert at sunset and sunrise to see the glow of the sun off the "things" out there.

Video: Getting dropped off in the middle of nowhere.

Like one of these "things." Well, Tauru found a better use for them. These are carved by wind.

Kind of like structures in Utah.

Video: The "things.".

Tauru spots a mushroom...

Closer...

And there he goes...

Christi wants a photo with the mushroom cloud, too.

With the sun setting, Christi tries some bouldering moves.

With crocs?

Another "things" with Christi.

The Salvadore Dali "thing." This one was carved out by millions of years of wind. The neck is only about 2 or 3 ft wide! See it now ...because the head is sure to topple over!

Video: The Mushroom Cloud and our "bedroom" for the night.

After spending a night in the White Desert, we hitch out the following morning to the next oasis town, Bahariyya, some 140 miles away.

Tauru again...
